Retiring from Your Job – but Not Your Life

Posted by Tendai on December 28, 2011 in "Retirement" Outta Here with No Comments

So many of the baby boomers are ready to throw in the towel, because of a dead beat, unfulfilling, stressful jobs, not life. They call it retiring and some people may get it confused. There is still creativity in your thoughts, dreams in your heart, a pep in your step, experience under your belt, wisdom in your years and a desire for something different for the next phase of your life.

I say the face of retirement has changed and we really need new language to describe the transition of those 40 and over to another way of living.  In this economy sometimes the retirement condition is forced upon us in leiu of lay-off, down seizing, or flat out quiting.

I have talked to women over 50 who have felt forced out of long time jobs only to descover that it was the best thing that could have happened.  After the shock, the dismay, the anger, comes the relalization that now all those dreams and wishes are now within reach.  They can be realized with you taking charge of your life and being responsible for the results.  What a concept!!

I have known people who comiserated over whether to leave their job, when to leave, how much was it going to cost, would they be able to make it, would there be enough money,  what would they do with all of that space time and on and on.  When the decision was finally made and deed done, it was much better than they had imagined and they wondered why they had taken so long.

If you are on the fense, feeling pressure to leave, or just ready to get the rest of your life started good things are happening.  There are those that would say, that you drew the situation to you, that it has shown up in your life due to your thoughts and beliefs.  Therefore you are poised to “handle” it, so just get going. Make a plan. Get with others. Go within so you can life full out.

Setting Intentions – A Daily Practice

Posted by Tendai on May 26, 2011 in Personal Development with No Comments

Setting my intention at the beginning of each day is a practice I have fully embraced over the past year. I have noticed that my day unfolds as I desire. The setting of intention actually, sets my mind in a receptive and releasing condition. In other words it keeps my mind in ‘right’ thinking. It allows me to relax and allow the peace and good and higher consciousness to be what guides my actions and the outcome of my day.  Over time your intentions become your life through consistency, a better understanding of the process and outcomes. Ester and Jerry Hicks books, my spiritual mentor Rev. Deena Jones and Rev, Debra’s works have assisted me in gaining more insight for my growth.

I have been surprised at times that the outcome of encounters in certain situations have been amenable, because I remember a time when those same situations would have ended in anger or blame and the whole conversation would have been strained.  That was during my pre-Intention setting days.

Setting intentions is not new to me, it is something I have done for some time. However, recently as I stated earlier, I am much more consistent and my intentions themselves are clearer, more concise and reflect a growth in my consciousness.

In Ester and Jerry Hicks books, it is suggested that you consciously set intentions throughout the day for specific situations to give strength to the desired unfoldment.  That is something I am working into my day, though I must admit I forget sometimes. This is another aspect of my practice I want to encompass.

Many years ago one of my spiritual mentors suggested that the correct thinking is to set your intentions and thank God for the great day you had. Then get out of bed, knowing that they have already happened and all you have to do is peacefully and happily walk through your day.

Rev.  Debra  in the piece she wrote suggests that there is an important distinction between intent and intention. She states, “Intention carries more of a sense of action…. .”  Her description of intent and intention opens up yet an higher way of thinking of intention as not only something I should set each day for the day but use the process for setting goals and reaching my dreams.  The piece also suggests that setting intentions is not just a process for the unfoldment of your day, but an even greater spiritual unfoldment of your life and that guided action is the key to the distinction.

My intention is to include the new knowledge acquired from these readings into my “intention setting” practices and watch my life unfold in new and wonderful ways.

My Revelation

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the annual Revelation Conference created by Agape International Spiritual Center located in Los Angeles, CA. To say the least it was awesome, uplifting, exciting, educational, and just wonderful. I really feel like I need to create some new words to describe my experience.

The headlining key note speakers were Maladoma Some and Ester and Jerry Hicks with their compadres called Abraham.  I have read the books by Maladoma and the Hicks, but the whole “in person” phenonomon  leaves you speechless.

I want to attend all the Revelation Conferences in the future.  I learned alot about myself. I know what to do with my thoughts and how to snap out of listening to “negative” thoughts. The lessons for me were about keeping focused on what you want, NOT on what you don’t want. OR on the lack of what you want. WOW, I realize I have been so focused on my plans and goals I forgot to live in the present. That single revelation for me is hugh.

I had forgotten the importnce of how to love where I am, how I am, who I am right now. But I’m back.  All is Well.

It’s Not Your Mother’s Retirement Anymore

Posted by Tendai on April 25, 2011 in "Retirement" Outta Here with No Comments

Just the word retirement conjures up so many diverse responses. Gone are the days when retirement meant leaving a 20, 30 or 40 year job, getting the pension and going home to play in the garden, watch TV with a beer on the coffee table, fix all the things around the house that have gone astray for years, or doing a little traveling to see the “grands.” No longer does it mean that even if you were the adventurous type you and the wife could finally get in the Winnebago and ride the back road to see all the grandeur of the United States.

There was a time you could live on what the pension afforded you. Of course there were those souls who had to take part time jobs to supplement their income and some who had made good investments and could do all of the things mentioned with less stress. All in all your life was pretty much decided for you.

The 21st century has ushered in many changes including: new technology, not so great retirement pensions, dot com fiascoes, a constant battle to maintain social security, job layoffs, housing crashes and the list of changes can go on and on.

More and more people of “retirement” age are not ready to “settle down.” As well, the people ready to leave a job are younger and younger and have not worked for 20 let alone 40 years on one job.  The fabric of the retiree has changed.  The financial piece has changed. How are you going to take care of yourself financially is one big questions. BUT this is not the topic of this “retirement” discussion.

The topic of this discussion is “what the hell do I do next?” The idea of reaching the age when you start considering “not working anymore,” at least, “not at this job” and looking forward to a little freedom and considering all of your options.

The terms used for people retiring have changed.  The references are second stage of life, next phase of life, active retirement, baby boomers, consultants, whatever can you think of.

It means we are still youthful, full of life, active, intelligent, experienced, knowledgeable, looking good, and ready to start our own business, work from home, travel the world or whatever. In other words start a new life or at least a life we have wanted and have been putting on hold. We could be 45, 50 or 70, but we’re not done, we’re not old and we’re not going into retirement like momma did.

I say congratulations to your new found attitude, courage and enthusiasm.

Got questions, good, ask the “right” people the empowering questions, in the “right” place at the “right” time. People like yourself. Don’t do it alone.

Happy New “Lunar” Year

Posted by Tendai on February 18, 2011 in Uncategorized with No Comments

Happy New Year! This is the year of the Hare or Rabbit. Many call this time Chinese New Year, but this calendar schedule is celebrated by many people all over the world.

The lunar calendar predates the International (Gregorian) calendar many of us use daily, monthly, and yearly. On a lunar calendar the time of the months is measured by the rotation of the moon around the earth. This is the year 4708. There is an extra month on the lunar calendar.  The “century” is actually every 60 years.

I could use an extra month. A friend of mine called the other day and said she needed more hours in the day and months in a year to get things done. Well…., you can always follow the lunar year.

This year is designed the Hare. That means the hare is KING. As well as the rest of us be quiet and calm. This is definitely your year Hares. The animal symbol comes around every 12 years. Since I was born the year of the Rat, when asked how old I am, I can answer the year of the Rat. That could be any number of ages. They can guess the rest. I like that approach. The next time I travel to China, I will be sure to give that answer.

So we get the opportunity to celebrate THE NEW YEAR, at least two times every year. Celebration is always  good. Wonderful so you can start over if you want and just be new again.

Happy New Year Everybody, again. !!!!

Master Mind Group – What is It?

Posted by Tendai on November 3, 2010 in Mastermind with No Comments

First let’s talk about what a mastermind group is.  When you look it up on the net which I am sure you have, you will undoubtedly get a definition that starts with the quote from the Napoleon Hill book “Think and Grow Rich, “   This has been sighted by many as the beginning of all the rage around master mind groups in recent years.

He wrote about his experience from Andrew Carnegie who requested his services and we know what Mr. Carnegie accomplished.

Businessmen and women from the last 2 centuries have gained their noted success from participating in master mind groups of one sort or another. They all knew that you don’t get where you are going by yourself.

I like to suggest that mastermind groups have been around for centuries if we just recognize the intent and formations.  Another quote comes to mind “When two or three are gathered in my name, there I am with them.” (Matthew 18:20)

I also imagine that peoples from time immemorial have been masterminding with each other.   Read the rest of this entry »
